International Drought Experiment (IDE)

The IDE is a multi-site experiment designed and coordinated a priori to assess terrestrial ecosystem sensitivity to extreme drought with common research protocols, measurements, and methodologies. It will significantly expand the scope of past drought experiments by including a greater range of ecosystem types, insuring that these experiments are accessible to as many investigators as possible, and overcoming the limitations of past drought experiments (i.e., lack of coordination, differences in approaches and methodologies, etc.).

More specific details about IDE can be found

– in the full invitation for participants

– in the experiment protocol (draft last updated Jan 2015)

– in the forest protocol

Current suggested timeline for sites wishing to participate in IDE:

Summer 2015 collect pre-treatment data

Summer 2016 first year of drought treatment
